Troy Nielsen

Troy Nielsen usually plays jazz guitar with other jazz musicians. But occasionally he is inspired by the home recording process, a boredom of standard guitar tuning, and a love of guitar-wielding maniacs Sonic Youth.

These solo works are the result of the aforementioned inspiration and the "instant composition" nature of jazz. Preferring restriction in the recording process, Nielsen uses only a Fender Stratocaster and a small coterie of effects/devices to make this noise.

NEW I Hear Rhymes All the Time MP3 (1.7Mb)
Spoken word bit (from a John Scofield master class at a guitar summer camp) is a result of what happens when you copy over a previously recorded tape. Fits rather nicely though.

NEW Willy Tree MP3 (2.9Mb)
Inspired by the fabulous guitar-work of Willy Porter, here's a tune that features my solidbody "acoustic" guitar made by Godin. Add some delay and a weird tuning (long since forgotten) and you're done.

NEW Mouthus Operandi MP3 (.4Mb)
I have a closet fascination of mouth percussion. This is my first foray into that arena. There are four separate tracks, all done by my cake-hole.

Slowing Down MP3
The "space landing" sci-fi sound at the beginning and end is the result ofan amplifier discharging its capacitors after being cranked.

Sissy Spacek MP3
A floppy E-string creates the distorted bass-like sounds.
