Noise pollution control might be a little unheard of but the concept is simple. People and businesses are making too much noise and it is affecting the overall quality of our neighborhoods. This problem can be stopped with a lot of consideration from individuals. You can post signs saying to keep the noise level down in your area. Maybe even move to a more secluded area of town.

There are many options but change starts with individuals. As more and more people are made known of this problem then more and more will take action in solving it. If a business around your home is too noisy either report them or go speak to the manager or owner. It is funny to say but speaking up about noise pollution control can help solve it.

Noise Pollution Affects Fish

A recent study conducted by the University of Bristol, examined the effects of exposing captive three-spined sticklebacks to brief and prolonged noise to investigate how feeding habits and performance are affected by noise pollution in an otherwise quiet environment.

The authors used 24 of these fish for their study. They were kept in aquariums which had no/minimum levels of noise pollution. The fish were then subjected to different levels of noise pollution with the prolonged and brief noise treatment being exposure to white noise with a frequency between 100 and 1000 Hz. The loudness of the playback noises were matched to the noise pollution recorded at the shoreline of lakes where recreational speedboats are active.

The research found that foraging performance decreased significantly due to the effects of noise pollution.
