Listening to your neighbor's noise is a major irritant, especially when it goes on for prolonged periods of time. There are many noises most people can put up with. If your neighbor is mowing the lawn it is easy to tolerate because it will be for a limited amount of time.
Depending upon the source of the noise there are some things that can be done. Insulating yourself from the sound of the noise can be accomplished in several ways. Likewise, if you are the cause of the noise, there are things that can be done to reduce it.
1. Add rugs and carpets to your floor. Even if you have a carpet, a large thick rug will go a long way to reducing the noise level.
2. Re-arrange furniture to add a cushion between you and a noise from the next room.
3. Change from blinds or light weight curtains to a heavy weight curtain.
4. Install double glazed windows.
5. Soundproof your doors.
6. Use a 'white noise' machine.
7. Buy mufflers for your garden equipment - or do the work by hand.
8. Plant trees and bushes between you and the noise.
