Noise Pollution: A Life Saver Or An Annoyance?

Noise Pollution: A Life Saver Or An Annoyance?

Noise pollution for some people is a life saver for others. Whoever said you can not please all of the people all of the time but you can please some of the people some of the time was spot on.

Have you noticed the number of pedestrian traffic lights that now beep loudly to let the pedestrian know it is safe to cross? While this is a life saver for someone who is blind, it is annoying to those of us who are not.

Many SUVs and small trucks are equipped with reverse warning alerts: when the vehicles engages the reverse gear a loud intermittent beeping is emitted. For the person who may be in the path of the reversing vehicle, this warning sound is vital to their safety: live in a cul-de-sac or next door to someone who reverses out of their drive all the time and it is a nightmare.

The debate about reducing noise pollution is a tricky one. There are no easy solutions to reducing many of the noises in our neighborhoods.
